Why did you choose your target language?

Scrabbin 1 years ago:

What factors did you consider when choosing the language you are studying? Usefulness? Career? Personal fascination for the language? Because it was easy or very challenging? To travel?

For school I had to choose between French and German. I'd taken French the three years prior to that choosing point and it seemed impossible for me to learn that language. Thus I decided for the easy way out and chose German.

My mother and father (both of whom are teachers) were married in San Miguel de Allende Mexico and they stressed the importance of learning a second language, and I picked it up easily....now I teach it, but I need to brush up on my skills..that's why I'm here.

Since I married .. things turned topsyturvy and my life changed totally. I learned basic japanese language . but conversational japanese is what i need most ..
Urdu- because I love music.. and gazhals are written in urdu.. so if i get to know the meaning .. i wld understand it and enjoy listening all the more.

german.. i wld like to learn as i like that language

english- my main problem is public speaking.. when i start conversing with somebody .. i tend to search for words ... its like i want to say so many things but at the particular moment i just cant converse fluently. I really want to improve on all this .hmmm yah thats that.

Honestly, I don't remember any more why I chose English many years ago. I think I simply liked the sound of it. I was only a teenager when I decided to start learning it so I don't think that I took its usefulness into consideration at that time.

What concerns German - it came automatically as I lived 4 years in Austria. Similarly with Russian - 4 years in Moscow.
And now Spanish. Well, I think it is a beautiful and not too difficult a language, especially if you speak English.

I want to learn finnish, because I want to absolve a practical term of my studies in Finland when all the other people are going to Switzerland or Austria I wannted to do something special. I really like the sound of the finnish language. It's so different to all the other languages I learned so far. That's the point what makes it really challenging for me.

I want to learn Spanish because of my family.
My family lives in Chili ( south-america).
They only speak Spanish so I need speak it very well.
Otherwise I can't speak or write with them.
That's why it is importent for me.

I would like to learn Czech because I am interested in Czech Surrealism. Before living in Berlin I lived in Prague for one year. I took a beginners course, but feel that I am still very much a beginner in this language.

I am learning German because I live in Berlin and hope to live here for several years. Ideally, I will complete a doctorate here which would focus on psychoanalysis and surrealism.
